Each applicant will undergo a thorough due diligence process that will evaluate the technical capabilities, funding ability, and experience of the team. The FIA is also requiring all candidates to provide a plan for how they would manage the sustainability challenge and achieve a net-zero CO2 impact by 2030. In addition, the candidates must demonstrate how they plan to have a positive societal impact through their participation in the sport.

The selection of candidates will be based on the overall long-term interests of the Championship and the compliance with regulations and governance arrangements. The formal application process, including the selection criteria, deadlines, legal requirements, and other conditions, will be communicated to candidates who submit a preliminary expression of interest.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem commented on the launch of the application process, stating that the growth and appeal of the FIA Formula One World Championship is at an all-time high. He emphasized the importance of meeting the FIA’s sustainability benchmarks and having a positive societal impact through sport. He also mentioned the positive impact of the FIA’s 2026 F1 Power Unit Regulations, which has attracted new entrants such as Audi and sparked interest from other potential teams.
