Does A New Era Begins With Alpine’s A523?

The Alpine Racing team is gearing up for the most intense racing season yet, and they’re pulling out all the stops with their new racing machine, the A523. Drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly unveiled the A523 with its signature French racing blue and BWT pink livery, leaving some of the car unpainted to save weight.

This new car builds on the strengths of its predecessor, the A522, and shows that Alpine Racing is serious about closing the gap to the front-runners in 2023. With a bulkier lateral part of the engine cover, the A523 has already caught the eye of racing enthusiasts.

But the changes aren’t just superficial. The Alpine team has switched from a pullrod to a pushrod rear suspension to reduce the car’s weight and improve airflow. Technical director Matt Harman believes this change will also make the rear end easier for mechanics to service.

Last season, Alpine Racing narrowly missed out on a higher place in the constructors’ championship due to a spate of retirements. But Ocon and Gasly are hoping the A523 will prove more reliable, and they got their first taste of the new machine during a Silverstone shakedown.

Alpine Racing’s ambition for 2023 is to continue on its 100-race plan to win a world championship, and the team is determined to be “closer to third than to fifth,” according to team boss Otmar Szafnauer. With the A523, they’re confident that they can make progress and move up in the rankings.
