AlphaTauri has turned up the heat with the reveal of its striking 2023 Formula 1 car and a bold new livery. The color scheme boasts a blazing shade of red, paying homage to new sponsor Orlen and making a statement on the track. The team debuted the sleek new design at New York Fashion Week and the renders of the AT04 left the racing world in awe.

But, all may not be as it seems. The design may appear different on the surface, but closer inspection reveals similarities that suggest the AT04 headed to Bahrain testing later this month could be vastly different from what was shown at the launch event.

The AT04 boasts a higher cooling tunnel between the sidepod and engine cover, shallower radiator inlets, and a front wheel that has been moved forward for increased aerodynamics. These changes address the weaknesses identified in the AT03 and aim to increase downforce and reduce weight.
Last year, AlphaTauri struggled to keep pace with its competitors, finishing ninth in the constructors’ championship. However, the team has learned from its experiences with the AT03 and has incorporated those lessons into the design of the AT04.
Yuki Tsunoda remains with AlphaTauri for a crucial third season, while Nyck de Vries joins the team fresh off an impressive stand-in appearance for Williams in last year’s Italian Grand Prix. The pressure is on for both drivers to prove their worth and secure a future in the sport.
